What comics can I jump into this week?! Week of 06/15/2022

Another week, another great time to jump into comics! For those of you who have always wanted to start reading comics (or older readers who want to start a new series), but find it all too overwhelming, This blog is here to help!

In this weekly blog, I list the best starting places for readers this week. Whether it’s jumping into a DC or Marvel comic that is a hundred issues in or finding that awesome new #1 issue, I want to help new and old readers alike.

This blog is broken up into four sections. First I start with the easy stuff, new #1’s. Then I move on to issues from ongoing series that are starting a new storyline or are self-contained stories. Next, I list all new first volume manga. The final section of the blog is for any issues or manga volumes that may not be the best place to start, but the issues or volumes before it are still available on our site www.gagescomicpages.com and could therefore be caught up on.

Quick disclaimer, I only focus on new issues that we’re carrying in our online shop. There are many other new titles out every week, so if there’s a particular one you were looking for, just message us through the site or send an email to customerservice@gagescomicpages.com. I can send you additional information on the title and can potentially order it for you if you’re interested. Also, feel free to send any other questions or suggestions you may have.

New #1’s

Do A Powerbomb #1

If you are/were a fan of pro-wrestling, this would be a great series for you. It also has a supernatural twist which adds to the story.

Lona Steelrose wants to be a pro wrestler, but she's living under the shadow of her mother, the best to ever do it. Seven Sons #1

It’s going to be a seven issue series and this feels like one of those for which you’ll want to go along for the ride. It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you like dark, religion-bending stories, this is perfect.
Description: JAE LEE returns to creator-owned comics with his first new title since 1994, a seven-issue limited series. SEVEN SONS is The Fugitive meets the Book of Revelation. Delph, a young man who may be the Second Coming of Christ, runs for his life as he attempts to learn the truth behind his existence.

A Calculated Man #1

I’m a math nerd so I’m all in on this one.

DC Pride Tim Drake Special #1

This is a one-shot that is more like a mini-trade paperback.

Hulklng And Wiccan #1

The fan favorite power couple is coming to print. This was originally an acclaimed, online Infinity Comic.

Captain America Sentinel Of Liberty #1

This is a new Steve Rogers ongoing title!

It also holds a secret, undiscovered until now, that will change the way Steve Rogers views the 20th century…and how he chooses to fight in the 21st. Star Wars Bounty Hunters #24

If you’ve been looking to jump into Star Wars comics, this is a good one. It’s the start of a new story line, so you should be able to follow along. What’s good about Marvel is that they alway have a recap page for anything that’s happened prior to the story in case there is anything you need to know to further enjoy or understand the story.
Description: Dengar is leading T'onga's bounty hunter crew on a desperate attempt to break into the Crimson Dawn's stronghold - and he's also leading them into a trap! Meanwhile, Valance has found a new purpose as Darth Vader's secret weapon. But how far will he be willing to go to protect an Imperial officer from assassins?

Iron Man #20

This is a self-contained story that sets up the next story line. Perfect way to dip your toe into Iron Man to see if this is something you’ll like without having to commit to a bunch of issues in order to get a full story.
Description: TONY STARK POPS THE QUESTION! With Korvac, the Power Cosmic and a nasty morphine addiction now behind him, a freshly humanized Tony Stark has returned from rehab to the world hoping to show folks that's he's okay, highly functional and ready to re-engage. So of course it's time for him to face off against an angry hyper-intelligent gorilla. When the public unveiling of a new Stark Supercomputer goes awry and the machine's hairy 400-lb chess opponent decides to break loose in the city, it all leaves Tony feeling a little anxious. Can Patsy Walker provide any shelter in this new storm, or does it just mean more clouds are gathering?

New Manga

We didn’t get in any new volume #1 Manga this week. There were definitely some that came out though, so check with your local shop to see what they suggest and check back here next week!
